purpose > Passion
My name is Lincoln Barnes — and this is my journal.
A collection of log entries from one lifelong story, one massive setback, and the daily steps I take to rebuild what was broken and become a better me.
I’m the founder of Purpose over Passion, a cybersecurity analyst, husband, hybrid athlete, Christian, and man learning that progress isn’t about perfection, but about showing up every single day.
Here you’ll find raw honesty, not highlight reels. I try not to share from a pedestal, but from the process. My goal is to build a community of radical authenticity, where faith meets discipline, failure fuels growth, and purpose stands greater than passion. These are my logs — and maybe, they’ll help you start writing your own.

ABOUT THE MOVEMENT
What is "Purpose over passion"
Purpose > Passion is more than a motto, it’s the lesson I learned the hard way. For years, I thought my passion for parkour was my calling, until one fall left me in a wheelchair and doctors told me I’d never walk again. That was when I realized passion can vanish in an instant, but purpose endures.
Passion burns hot and fast, feeding the self for a moment, while purpose is everlasting, lighting the way for others long after you’re gone. Passion is about feeling good; purpose is about doing good. One fades when the feeling fades, while the other becomes legacy.
Purpose is steady, unwavering, and often difficult, but it gives life meaning that comfort never could. It’s the quiet fire that keeps you moving long after passion’s spark has died out — the kind of fire no fall can extinguish.
FROM PASSION TO PURPOSE
WHAT choosing PURPOSE Looks like
Creating when it’s easier to consume.
Building when no one’s watching.
Turning pain into direction.
You stop asking “What do I feel like doing?” and start asking “What must be done?”
Living for what outlives you — and finding passion in the process.

"MY BIGGEST REGRETS IN LIFE WILL NOT COME FROM THE THINGS I DID, BUT FROM THE THINGS I DIDN'T."
